Transforming your mind
Transforming Your Mind |
Romans 12:2
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable perfect will of God. New King James
Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect His will really is.
New Living Translation
Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention of God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. The Message
What's been on your mind today?
I was thinking how pleased I am when science discovers something that God has been telling us all along. Today, SPECT scans of the brain can show us the impact on our brain functioning reflecting negative thoughts and emotions. There is actually an area of the brain that becomes over active, showing up red on the scans when are mind is dwelling excessively on negative thoughts.
Our awesome Creator, who has formed the marvelous organ we call the brain, has left us with instructions on how to use it. God is very clear on where our thoughts need to be. In Philippians 4:8 NKJ He tells us to meditate on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, on whatever things are of good report, on virtue, on anything that is praiseworthy. Where have your thoughts been today?
God makes it clear that we have power over our thoughts. We can be changed when we choose to think on positive things. He tells us that we can be transformed by the renewing of our mind in Romans 12:2 NKJ. In 2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJ we are instructed to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
God is also quite adamant when it comes to worry. Have you worried about something today? Take a look at Matthew 6:25-34 and Luke 12:22-31. God tells us repeatedly: "Do not worry".
I challenge you today to use the ability God has given you to control your thoughts. The obedience to His Word, the discipline of your mind, will transform your life. "Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious - the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise not things to curse."
